St Nicholas Anglican Church in Charlo Port Elizabeth is offering a free one-day Paradigm Shift training course for small business owners.

“The training is geared for micro-entrepreneurs, or those earning around R100 a day from their businesses,” says course convener Ed Richardson.

“It is an exciting programme which was developed by Cape Town-based Paradigm Shift. Essentially, we take the business owner through a relaxed and fun day of training after which they will have a better idea of marketing, costing, budgeting, pricing, selling, record keeping and other essential skills,” he says.

Up to 30 entrepreneurs can be accommodated on the course, and it is being offered free by St Nicholas. Six business people from the parish will be facilitating the training.

“We will give preference to those who are already in business – and if you are selling cookies at a market once a month, offer painting services, have an informal stall, or fix computers in your spare time you are in business.

“Equally, if you have tried to start a business and failed, you will be welcome. In business, failure is just part of the journey towards being successful.

“What is important is that everyone has a common experience of what it is like to run a business.
That way we will be able to learn from each other and find inspiration in the successes and creativity of others who daily face the same business challenges as us,” he says.

Paradigm Shift is an organisation which aims to empower South African churches to provide the poor in their communities with economic development and discipleship.

“One of the lessons that emerges from the training is that good business practices are all Bible-based.

The first training session will take place on Saturday, July 13, from 08:30 to 16:30 in the afternoon.
