Kusaidiana Trust
Contact: Ilse Terblanche
Kusaidiana Trust provides opportunities for practical upskilling and/or education for beneficiary students from Africa living within the Nelson Mandela Metropole.
The Trust is a Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) through which businesses or individuals can provide contributions to beneficiary African students.
Background
The Trust was founded in 2017, after becoming aware of and experiencing first-hand the struggles of the many students from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Congo and other African countries, living in Central Port Elizabeth who cannot obtain bursaries or subsidies through formal South African channels. They also struggle to get access to skills and educational facilities because preference is given to nationals. They came to South Africa to improve their livelihood, but in many cases have to send money home to their families and communities. This makes it difficult for them to improve their own lives and fulfil their aspirations for a better life.
Once caught up within a cycle of poverty it becomes very difficult to break free. As a result many people eventually lose hope because they cannot fulfil their dreams or obtain a job, even though they may be talented and hard-working.
Through the Trust we aim to identify such people, give them hope and help them fulfil their aspirations.
The Trust is named Kusaidiana Trust, which is a Swahili expression that means “to support one another”.
