LUX AETERNA - OPERATIC REFLECTIONS AROUND EASTER

As Easter approaches, Mandela Bay Opera invites you to join us for Lux Aeterna - Operatic Reflections around Easter, a Palm Sunday concert that explores the powerful relationship between faith, drama and the operatic voice.
Taking place on Sunday, 29 March 2026 at 15:00 at the Cathedral Church of St Mary the Virgin in Gqeberha, the programme brings together music drawn from some of the most spiritually charged moments in opera and oratorio. Works by Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Rossini, Gounod, Mozart, Franck, Handel and Mendelssohn reflect themes of prayer, redemption, exile and renewal that resonate strongly with the Easter season.
The concert features an outstanding group of singers from the Eastern Cape's emerging operatic talent pool: Lindokuhle Gushu and Sinentlahla Ndala (sopranos), Afika Gwam (tenor), and Lesego Mkhwanazi (bass-baritone), joined by the Le Strada Choral Society under the direction of Anele Mutei. Justin Stone will be at the organ, with Kobus Buys as musical director and pianist.
